5 cant miss apps for legal transcriptionists

5 Can’t-Miss Apps for Busy Legal Transcriptionists

//  by Accuscribers

As a legal transcriptionist, accuracy and speed are critical skills. Good apps make work less daunting and save you precious time. If you want to streamline your transcription service and make use of some innovative technology, consider the following five of our favorites:

1. Fastcase

Fastcase lets you search legal terms and statues quickly. The app also allows you to browse, search, read and save legal information from a vast online legal library. With Fastcase, you can carry out a case search using a case name, keyword, date or jurisdiction. Upon running your search, you will see the first paragraph of the case, the time and the case name. After reading through the information you are looking for, you can save it in the ”saved documents’’ tools section in your device for future reference.  You can also sync the collected materials to your desktop for easy access while at your computer.

2. Dropbox

Create, store, and share cloud content from Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, Microsoft Office files, and Dropbox Paper alongside traditional files in Dropbox. This app offers a modern workspace that was designed to help you manage your busy work schedule. It puts your files together in one central place where you will find it easy to access from anywhere and at any time. And most importantly it offers a secure, distributed infrastructure—plus admin tools for control and visibility—keep your company’s data safe.

3. Evernote

Grab screenshots, PDF’s or research articles from the web and save them in Evernote without exiting your browser. If you have found it difficult to save your research in an easy-to-organize-and-retrieve-later way, then Evernote’s Web Clipper might be just the thing you’re looking for. Shared notes are great for collaborating on projects. Evernote’s shared notebooks let you (and those you specify) view all documents and to-do lists that will make your make your jobs run much more smoothly.

4. Buffer

Buffer works perfectly for legal transcriptionists with little time to waste on updating their social media accounts. It is super easy to use. You only need to install the Buffer app to help you connect with the entire world and your colleagues in one click of a button. This app manages your accounts, such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Buffer app allows you to schedule posts or tweets and have them sent out at a specified time. It also enables you to draft posts and coordinate with your team quickly.

5. Black’s Law Dictionary

Black’s Law is the most widely used law dictionary in the United States. It’s the reference of choice for terms in legal briefs and court opinions and has been cited as a secondary legal authority in many U.S. Supreme Court cases. A tried and true reference; it’s been in use for more than 100 years. It has over 15,000 legal terms and is a must-have item in the legal transcription world. We keep a desktop reference and utilize the free online Black’s Law dictionary App that works perfectly on any mobile device.

These are some of our favorites. Care to share yours? Reach out and comment below; we’d love to hear from you.

Next Post: 7 Video Meeting Platforms Thinking of going virtual? In this list, we’ve gathered the major online meeting platforms together in order to give you an idea of their individual strengths as well as some insight into what makes each of them different. Technology is making things possible today that were impossible just a few short years ago. All the best to you as you venture into online virtual meetings. Google Hangouts Not as formal as Google’s other option, Meet, Hangouts gives you everything you need in a more casual format. What we like about this is that you have the option to use the app in a pretty robust way. Outside of that, we think business people might want something a little more sophisticated. Zoom The current talk of the town, Zoom gives you everything you could ever want in both personal and business settings. Plus there is a free and a paid option. We advise you to check this one out first because there is a reason so many people like it. FaceTime Apple’s FaceTime, like Hangouts, is great for person-to-person meetings and personal matters. It's worth mentioning but we just don’t think it is going to meet the needs of business or law. Skype One of the oldest names in the game, Skype is a good option because it offers both text and video conferencing options that are second to none. This makes it the most versatile and robust for personal and business communication. That said, it’s probably not the best thing for large audiences that require input and interaction from many different people. Zoom does a great job with that, but Skype wasn’t really built for that purpose. Google Meet The grown-up version of Hangouts, Google Meet is the search engine giant’s answer to Zoom and we like it. The only problem is that you might have an issue getting others to adopt it if they’re already using the aforementioned competitor service. There is also some wonkiness about managing meetings that Google needs to iron out before this is truly ready for prime time. Webex A veteran of the video meeting and teleconferencing game, Webex seems to be stuck in that glory age rather than today. Even so, it is a solid choice because what it does, it does really well. Great for small to large meetings, the only problem we have with Webex is that it can get pretty expensive depending on the size of your meeting. Slack Slack is great for text and small meetings of less than 15 people. What Slack really excels at is productivity coordination and interoffice communication. If you’re looking for a video meeting platform that can host 15 or fewer participants, Slack has you covered. Whether for business or meeting with friends, live streaming video meetings are the future. Luckily for us, there are many options - free and paid - for video meeting services; it really just depends on what your business or personal needs are.»
